I am aware of the illiteracy problem in our world and even in The United States of America. I know that our schools are struggling to teach children how to read. I know this because as an elementary school teacher, I experienced this on a day to day basis. Today, our prisons are filled with many people who have passed through their own homes and our school system then entered the work-world unable to read. This is no excuse to commit a crime. Yet, I believe it is a crime for a young person to enter the work-world, in the information age, unable to read.
There are even millions of little girls throughout the world who have never been given the opportunity to learn how to read, simply because of their sex. Statistics about illiteracy can be found online at a number of websites. I choose not to publish the statistics, or memorize them, but rather share my vision and focus my energy on the solution to this incredible problem.
The solution is to inspire and inform the literate of the simple steps that can be taken to begin teaching the illiterate how to read, with a focus on parents teaching their own babies during the most natural stage of life for learning how to read. Ideally, literacy begins in the womb during the first developmental year of life. I encourage you (parents) to begin reading to your baby as soon as you discover that you are expecting.

I do this because it is empowering in many ways. Number one, you get the knowledge and opportunity to give your own precious baby the gift of literacy, through an incredibly loving and bonding process. Secondly, by giving your baby this gift at such an early and most natural stage of life…your baby will be able to explore more of their God given potential…thus enhancing our world.
